Karen Kuykendall, an abstract artist working primarily in acrylics on canvas, creates art in her studio overlooking a beautiful view of Skiatook Lake amidst the rolling hills of Osage County, Oklahoma. She works intuitively, generally with no preconceived plan when beginning a painting. She is as surprised as anyone to see what emerges as the painting develops, and this element of surprise is one of her great delights in painting. Much like a writer, she enjoys the spontaneity of the “first draft” where anything goes, but then edits the painting with the intention of applying solid design principles in the elements of line, color, value, shape, and texture.
Karen earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science at Oklahoma State University and worked for many years in corporate information technology designing computer software.
Karen’s work is represented in private collections and has been donated and sold for charitable fundraisers. She is represented by Royce Myers Gallery in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
