McVee, a very successful self-taught artist, got her teaching degree in Art Education in 1988. She has shown her works of art throughout the country. Her art is collected by fans around the world. Mary came to the U.S. in the early 1990's with her young children and currently lives in Buffalo, New York. Besides working in her studio, she also teaches art classes.
“I found that the heavy texture, the layers of paints, the lines, shapes and the freedom of composition gave me the total energy to perform. The canvas is my stage, just like a musician performs his music, slowly and freely, the notes become a beautiful piece of music. In my painting, I hope that you will see the shapes and textures and layers of colors as you would enjoy a beautiful piece of music.”
Besides painting and teaching, McVee likes to walk by Lake Erie, “Many of my inspirations come from the water of the lake, when lights changes, wind speed changes, the whole world begins to look like an abstract painting – but a beautiful painting.”
