Steve Nan was born on June 24, 1977 in Sichuan, China. Sichuan Province, location in southwest China, is one of the largest and most inaccessible provinces in the nation. At an early age, he spent most of his time in Chengdu. Chengdu is the capitol of Sichuan and one of the first centers of printing in China and has been famous for luxurious satins, brocades and lacquer ware.
His parents worked for the factory making antique lacquer ware. When he was young, he often went to the factory and helped his parents. He was really impressed by the craftsman who made those antiques. "It really inspired me to decide to study art."
Nan is well-educated, graduating from the Fine Art department of Neimenggu Normal University in 1999 and studied at Xiemen University of art and design through 2001. He moved to Beijing, China in 2002 for his career as professional artist.
He paints a variety of subjects and style which include impressionistic and contemporary. He now concentrates on abstract work with an expression toward geometrical abstract, color combinations with texture and goldleaf compositions and patterns.
